At BorealForest, we create objects that speak to the soul—like this symbolic narrative handmade ceramic plate. Unlike functional pieces such as a lidded bowl with a cap, or repetitive geometric-patterned ceramics, this plate carries a unique artistic language all its own.
It begins with the clay. Artisans journey deep into the mountains to source coarse clay rich in natural mineral crystals. They then refine it through a demanding process of wet and dry sieving—all to preserve a texture fine enough for detailed carving.
Next, the artisan hand-shapes the plate and begins carefully carving symbols like stars, moons, and wings. Each line and pattern tells a story. In some areas, the clay measures just 1mm thick, requiring immense skill and control from the maker.
Then, the artisan glazes and fires the plate in a wood kiln at over 1000°C. The heat blends the glaze and carvings in unexpected ways, making each handmade ceramic plate truly one of a kind.
This piece draws its strength from mountain clay and its soul from symbolic storytelling. In an age of mass production, we commit to uniqueness—each plate holds a narrative etched by hand and fire, waiting for you to read.
