Lunar Bloom Plate -- Handmade Ceramic
Who doesn't long for an object that "reads the passage of time"? The Lunar Bloom Plate—a handmade ceramic piece carved with moon phases and flowers—offers exactly that. Unlike a lidded bowl with a cap focused solely on function, or geometric-patterned ceramics with repetitive prints, this plate tells a unique story: a quiet poem of day and night, brought to life through handmade ceramic artistry.
It begins with the earth. Artisans gather raw clay from wild mineral-rich soils, then refine it through repeated sieving and grinding. This careful process preserves the clay’s natural texture—creating a perfect canvas for fine carving.
Next, the potter shapes the plate by hand. Once the clay reaches the ideal dryness, they carve motifs of moon cycles and blooming flowers. Each curve of the moon, each petal’s shape, comes to life under the artisan’s knife. In some areas, the clay measures only a few millimeters thick—every cut demands decades of experience.
Then, the artisan glazes and fires the plate in a high-temperature kiln. Under the intense heat, the glaze merges with the carvings, creating subtle, one-of-a-kind textures and tones. No two handmade ceramic plates ever turn out the same.
Crafted from wild clay and animated by carving and fire, this piece stands as a tribute to individuality in an age of mass production. It’s more than a plate—it’s a poem carved by the knife and kissed by the flame, a quiet companion that honors time, nature, and the human hand.
